Building Community Through Agriculture Since 1857
The West Niagara Agricultural Society (WNAS) is a volunteer-run nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting agriculture, education, community engagement, and rural traditions throughout Niagara.
Through the annual West Niagara Fair, equestrian programs, community events, educational initiatives, and the operation of the West Niagara Agricultural Centre & Fairgrounds, we create opportunities for people of all ages to connect with agriculture and one another. For more than 165 years, our organization and its predecessors have played an important role in celebrating the agricultural heritage of our region while supporting the future of farming and rural life.
Who We Are
The West Niagara Agricultural Society is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and supported by dedicated volunteers, members, sponsors, and community partners. As a nonprofit organization, every program, event, and initiative we undertake is guided by our commitment to serving the community and advancing agricultural awareness. We believe agriculture is more than an industry - it is a foundation of our community, economy, and way of life.
What We Do
The West Niagara Fair
The West Niagara Fair is our signature annual event, bringing together families, farmers, exhibitors, businesses, and visitors to celebrate agriculture, community, and rural traditions.
Equestrian Programs
Through initiatives such as the West Niagara Saddle Club, Ship-In Schooling, and Niagara's Finest Horse Show, we support equestrian sport, horsemanship, and lifelong learning within the horse community.
Community Events & Programs
Throughout the year, we host and support events, workshops, and activities that bring people together, strengthen community connections, and promote agricultural education.
West Niagara Agricultural Centre & Fairgrounds
Our facilities provide space for agricultural events, livestock exhibitions, equestrian activities, weddings, trade shows, meetings, and special events.
Revenue generated through facility rentals helps support the ongoing operation of our grounds and the programs we deliver for the community.
Our Mission
The West Niagara Agricultural Society is a non-profit organization whose overall purpose is to contribute to, serve, and support the community and to grow agriculture into the future.
We aim to promote agriculture, education, and community engagement by providing opportunities to celebrate our rural heritage, encourage learning, and bring people together.

History & Heritage
The West Niagara Agricultural Society was formed in 2012 through the amalgamation of the Lincoln Agricultural Society and the Smithville Agricultural Society.
These organizations shared a long and proud history of supporting agriculture through local fairs and exhibitions dating back to the 19th century. The first Beamsville Fair was held in 1857, followed by the first Smithville Fair in 1878.

By bringing these two organizations together, the newly formed West Niagara Agricultural Society created a stronger foundation to serve the agricultural and rural communities of West Niagara.
In 2015, the opening of the West Niagara Agricultural Centre & Fairgrounds in Grassie marked the beginning of a new chapter—providing a modern home for the West Niagara Fair, equestrian activities, agricultural events, and community gatherings.
Today, we continue to build on that legacy while looking toward the future.
Powered by Volunteers
Everything we do is made possible by volunteers. From organizing the West Niagara Fair and equestrian programs to supporting community events, fundraising initiatives, committees, and governance, volunteers are at the heart of our organization. Whether you have a few hours to give or are interested in becoming more involved, there are opportunities for individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels.
