2016-2017 Fair Ambassador - James Gilchrist
Meet James Gilchrist, our 2016-2017 Ambassador of the West Niagara Fair
James graduated from Grimsby Secondary School in June 2017 with honours Secondary School diploma and his High Skills Major in Construction. In September, James will be attending University of Guelph Ridgetown Campus to pursue a diploma in Agriculture.
James has always lived in rural Smithville but has never lived on a farm. He started with 4-H Dairy Calf club at the age of 10 and has completed 20 projects since then including 9 Dairy, 5 Plowing, 4 Sporting Chance, Farm Safety, Demo Derby and 4-H Explore for Boys. James is currently the President and Youth Leader for the 4-H Lincoln Dairy Calf Club. James is also a member of Niagara Wentworth Junior Farmers.
James was a member of the GSS rowing team for 4 years and a member of the school Jazz and Concert bands from grades 7 to 11. He spends his spare time training as a long distance runner. In 2017 James ran the Grimsby Half Marathon and the Around the Bay 30km in 2:45. James continues to be a very helpful volunteer with 4-H, the West Niagara Fair and Poultryfest.
As Ambassador James walked in both the Smithville and Grimsby Santa Claus parades and was honoured to be able to attend the OAAS conference in February. As Ambassador, James spoke at the 4-H Niagara North Awards banquet and at Caistor Centre Public School to encourage participation in the fair. James will be attending the CNE competition for Ambassador of the Fairs, August 18 to 20.
