The annual Tricia Vaughan Memorial Scholarship celebrates young leaders who have excelled in their achievements as 4-H club members and at school and in their community. Now in its thirteenth year, the purpose of this program is to develop an awareness of the importance and benefits of higher education. It is offered by the West Niagara Agricultural Society with the cooperation and support of the Niagara
4-H Association to current members of Niagara 4-H who have completed at least six projects and are enrolled in a recognized post-secondary education program.
Three scholarships were awarded this year in the amount of $1500.00 and $1000.00 and $750.00 Applicants submitted a copy of their academic report cards of their last year of secondary school, a list of their extra-curricular activities, their completed

4-H clubs, involvement in the community and a brief essay discussing their personal goals.
Tricia’s parents Norman and Catharine were on hand to celebrate the three young people and present the scholarships.

“Once again the scholarship selection committee did an excellent job of choosing three very deserving winners,” said Catharine Vaughan. “We were especially pleased to note that all three recipients have been active participants in our local fairs, and 4-H clubs.

“We have known Kaitlin Lunshof since she was a baby so we are very pleased to present her with a $750.00 scholarship. As a member of 4-H Kaitlin belongs to the Goat and Explore Clubs. Always willing to lend a hand with the younger members it is befitting that she is attending Redeemer University in the Applied Social Science Program. It is her hope to eventually work with children.

“Abby Seymour is well known to many leaders in 4H. She has completed clubs in Lifeskills, Judging and Dairy. She takes with her to Niagara College many skills that will help her in her field of study, Registered Nursing. Her plans are to work in the Health Care Field. We hope this $1000.00 will help you with your goal.”

“We have known Josiah Lodewyk for many years. He attended several 4-H clubs and participated in several activities at our family farm. He was always eager, smiling, and co-operative and dedicated to doing his best. His desire to try new things and build different things will be well suited to his chosen university field. Josiah is attending Waterloo University in System Design Engineering- Co-Op program. He hopes to go on to complete his Masters and seek employment in the Agricultural Industry. We are pleased to present him with $1500.00 to aid him in his studies.
